You are able to import a list of subscribers to your LaunchNotes account. A great use-case for this is when you have an existing list of users that you'd like to sign up to start receiving notifications on your announcements.

This article will cover:

File requirements

You can upload any .csv, .tsv, .xls, .xlsx, .xml, .txt file with any set of columns as long as it has 1 record per row. When building your file, all you will need is an email column and a categories column. If you wish to subscribe a user to multiple categories, this field should be a comma-separated list of the category names

Loading from a database

If you are generating your subscribers from a database, please make sure the categories are in double quotes. A few acceptable examples are:

Loading from sheets/Excel

If you are loading these from Google Sheets/Excel, the double quotes will be automatically added. Below is a screenshot of an acceptable example using Google sheets:

Importing subscribers

To get started, go to the Subscribers tab, and then select the Import Subscribers button, which will bring up the Bulk add Subscribers window

To import an accepted file type, select the Upload data from file button, select the relevant CSV. This will now take you through a 4 step process to verify the data and confirm the uploading of your subscribers.

1. Upload your file

The Upload screen will identify the column headers for the relevant email and category/ies. When set, confirm the column headers or make the necessary adjustments.

This is also a good opportunity to check to see that the categories are listed correctly, separated by a comma, as shown below:

2. Match the fields

This step confirms the matching of the columns to the Email and Categories fields recognized by LaunchNotes. You'll also be shown the percentage of fields matching values and a pass/fail validation for each field.

If all is looking as it should, select the Review button to move to the next stage.

3. Review/Repair

On this screen, you can make tweaks to email addresses or categories. Toggle the "only show rows with problems" button to show any errors and make the relevant corrections, if necessary.

4. Complete

Select Continue, where you'll be prompted to confirm submission of the import file, and a success message will be shown.

Manually adding subscribers

You can also enter your subscribers manually in the fields provided in the Import Subscriber window, under the manual entry table, as shown below:

Once entered in, select Continue where you'll be prompted to confirm submission of the manual adding of subscribers, and a success message will be shown.

Important things to note

  • If you leave the categories blank, this will designate that subscriber to all categories.

  • If you misspell a category or do not follow the correct naming conventions for multiple categories, this will create a new category with that name.

  • Depending on the size of your list, it can take a few minutes for these to show under your subscriber's list.

  • If you attempt to import a currently unsubscribed email address, this will not re-add them as a subscriber and will show up as a failed attempt for that subscriber
